Circumstances: we had to leave the house and as usual, she followed us outside and a bit down the road. she always does that, but we haven't seen her since
Other info: she is not fully grown, I think it is quite obvious that she is a YOUNG cat, under a year old

It seems Pipsy was picked up by a stranger who gave her to someone else who then sold her on. No one ever took her to the vet. When she did end up with a vet a year later it turned out she actually now was living with another family AND she also had had kittens in the meantime which were only 8 or so weeks old, so it was decided it might be best to leave her with her current family
