Hi, a friend was upset about this and reported it on facebook: ''If anyone has lost their cat a brownish black cat we saw a dead one near The Black Swan pub, if you know anyone who has lost their cat please share.'' She lives in aston st too. I'm so sorry if it is your cat. We lost a cat on the road once.

Please tell me your friend's name and contact details. We are in Sicily but I could email and ask for more detail, e.g. whether the dead cat was long or short-haired. Burmese are orangey brown, but could look blackish if wet, I guess. But Spider is short-haired. Thanks anyway

Hi. I’m not sure if it’s Spider as I didn’t see the cat myself but a friend told me she saw a deceased brownish blackish cat by the black swan pub crown street. I hope it’s not Spider but I thought you should know X

Thank you for reporting this. Unfortunately, we are in Sicily and although I asked a friend to look around that pub this evening, she could not find anything. Probably cleared away by now. For the future, more detail would be great, e.g. long or short-haired. Phone pic would also be helpful, but might upset some people with delicate sensibilities. I just want to know if my treasured pet is alive or dead! Jane

Well worth calling Oxford County Council as they would most likely have collected this pet and have a description. Hope this helps. As yet it is not law to report a cat when run over (it is for dogs), but there is a lot of pressure being put on politicians to now make it so. x

Thanks for this suggestion. I looked online and Oxford City Council say they will remove dead animals reported to them and do a chip scan. If they can identify an owner, they will do their best to contact them. When we get back, I may be able to find out. Of course, if someone throws a dead cat on a skip or in a bin, this may not happen. Jane

Hi, I tslked to my friend. She actually lives near you and helped you look for your cat. The cat she saw had white paws so its probably not yours. Her email: taniya.akter@hotmail.com

Thank you for all your help. Spider is home at last. She was tracked down using Google groups and fairly near to where we live. But she had crossed a street and got lost.

Spider was tracked down very near to where we live, but across Henley Street, so she was lost and did not know how to get home. A friend picked her up yesterday and she was here when we got home in the early hours.
