Name: Unknown
Breed & Species: Russian Blue cat
Colour: Grey

Found: 3 years ago
(01 May 2021 at around 00:00hrs)
Location: Delamere Close, Six Mile Bottom, Newmarket, UK
Health: Healthy
Age: 6 years old
Sex: Male
Collar: No
Microchipped: No
Markings: Although I’ve described him as a Russian Blue, he is more likely to be a British Blue
Circumstances: As mentioned above, sitting in our neighbour's garden, peering into our rear garden
Other info: We first became aware of him about 4 weeks ago whilst he was sitting in our neighbour's rear garden. We have 5 cats that at some time were strays, two of whom are eighteen year old brothers living out their retirement in the lap of luxury. Our garden is secure to prevent any of our cats from venturing out onto the road (we’ve previously lost several cats to RTA’s. Whilst our cats happily remain in our garden, it doesn’t prevent a determined cat from clambering over the 9 foot wire fences. This Blue (who we have christened ‘Greystoke’) has gained access to our garden and being an un-neurured Tom, has been very aggressive to our ‘tribe’ and has beaten up one of our old Tom cats. Believing him to be hungry, we have been feeding him away from our house and we have beefed up our security to keep him out of our rear garden. If we’re unable to locate his owner(s) we will arrange for him to be neutered. We will delay that decision for a month hoping that against all expectations he is someone’s cherished pet: although given that he’s NOT been microchipped or neutered, that seems unlikely

Can you check for a chip please? My cat Marvin has been missing for 3 months without a trace and looks like this cat. He went missing from Wales though, but could have travelled/hitched a lift. Thanks, Sue

Hi Sue, we scanned him when he first turned up and sadly he isn’t chipped. If you would like to contact me on 07885 836152 or 01 638 570312, we can chat further. My wife and I are experienced cat ‘parents’ having given homes to many stray cats over the years. If you contact us directly, I’ll take some more photos so that you’re able to have a good look at him. He’s very amenable and allows us to stroke him. He’s a lovely little chap. Hope to hear from you

Chips can move about in the body; so it’s possible that our scan may not have picked it up

In the absence of finding his owner, after consulting with a couple of vets, I paid for him to be neutered and microchipped. He now has a permanent home in South Wales and his name is now Gryffin. A great outcome

We’d been feeding him for about 3 months and no one had claimed him until a ‘Sue’ in Bridgend was convinced that our Greystoke was in fact her Marvin: although given that her cat had been chipped & our boy hadn’t, we proved to her that sadly he wasn’t her boy. As she was/is grieving for her Marvin I did just pose the question whether it would be possible to teach Greystoke (Gryffin) Welsh…it did the trick and she duly arrived to pick him up. I’d bought her a large case so that Gryffin could luxuriate on some warm blankets for the long trip to Wales. It’s proved to be a marriage made in heaven. Sue works from home & Gryffin prefers to remain indoors, sleeps on bed, often on the pillow next to her
