Hello Kendallshirlee, thank you for caring about the cat and reporting him/her. You are right he/she may just be an aging local cat, however he/she may be stray, it is hard to tell. Have you seen the cat again since at all? Are you in a position to look out for the cat and see if he/she has regular visiting times?

Hi Rusty, it actually stayed all night and came through our cat flap during the rain. We have a cat, and they did not have a problem with each other - but it was afraid of people. We get a lot of cats in our garden because it’s the only one around (and easy for a cat to access from a roof), but this was a new visitor. We’re also checking with neighbours, but thought it would be good to post here just in case. Because it wouldn’t let a person near, unfortunately we couldn’t put a paper collar with details on it. I was able to get a better look at its eye, and it seems to have a cataract rather than an injury.

Thank you for responding so quickly. Yes a paper collar will be a good idea if at all possible at some point - perhaps once you have befriended a little. You seem very kind and cat aware. I will give you a call in a little while, and offer some advise

Any news?

It’s come back regularly, sneaking through the cat flap at night. It still won’t let us get close to it so we haven’t been able to put a paper collar on it, and we haven’t been able to confirm with any neighbours that it’s theirs. It does seem to be in OK health though aside from the cataract and snarl tooth. So it’s possibly a local cat who just happens to look a bit wild. We’re keeping an eye on it when it does stop by.

I’m free after 8pm until very late, so text 07905130533 if you can get keep him/her indoors for me to scan sometime soon xx

That’s very helpful. We had hoped to take it to the vet to get it scanned, but we’ve not been able to keep it in the house because it runs if anyone moves. It’s been coming in the middle of the night, but if it does come while we’re still awake I will text. It’s also not been coming at regular times (it’ll come for a couple of nights and then not come again for a week), so it’s been hard to prepare for anything.

Sadly we haven't seen this cat since August. It came by occasionally at night through our cat flap and ate. Hopefully someone was able to catch this fellow and reunite it or give it a nice home, but I'll keep this post live in case someone comes looking for it one day and this helps to see where it's been.

This cat reappeared in January 2021. It started coming in through our cat flap at night and in mornings. Sometimes it would eat our cat's food, other times it just sits. It does a kind of chirping noise when it comes around. It still will not let us get too close to it, but it's friendly with our cat. Sometimes it will come for a few days in a row, and then disappear for a few weeks. We currently have seen it in about month. When it does come it actually seems clean (no matted fur or dirt), despite the weather being a bit miserable. So it seems it's not likely to be a stray, but I'm still leaving this up just in case.
