There have been no contacts. The cat has a white chest and belly as well. We aren't seeing much of it recently but not sure if that is a good or bad sign. Will continue to try to encourage it to let us get close enough to catch it so we can check if it is chipped..

We have lost a very similar cat - does this cat have a collar?
fiis
ChrisCats
Hi, sorry for delay replying. No the cat doesn't have a collar. It is still proving difficult to get near enough to grab it to check if it has been chipped and the dark nights and recent rain don't help in terms of actually seeing it for long. WE do know that it responds to being called and replies - it has quite a loud meow and I think that is an indication of being a stray rather than a feral cat,.

ChrisCats
Hi - just to add - we are feeding it alongside 2 feral cats whose history we know as ex Freshfield sibling kittens that were given to the owner of the stables near Shorrocks as working cats to keep the rodent populaton down when Freshfield failed to domesticate them but they have been daily visitors to us for years. Long story but one first appeared and we thought it was a stray sp started to put food out and managed to get it to the vet and it was chipped -so hence knowing the history. She later brought her brother who is black so we upped the food a bit and we think the new one has joined forces with the 2 of them to survive. Our garden offers the food source.

Thank for your reply - we are in Wirral so, if it is him he must have ventured into a van or something and escaped over there. He was wearing a collar but that may have been lost in transit!? His main distinguishing feature is his half white top lip. & that is what looks similar to that cat you have. Our cat is listed with a photo here: https://www.petslocated.com/upload_photos.php?pid=c3adc7b47a6cf7cee5b53bcc32392608

I'm sorry but I can't open your picture - the link doesn't seem to link to a picture. The marking on this cat is distinctive. Cats can climb into vans and lorries and there are a number of big building works going on in Formby. When did your cat go missing?
fiis
fiis
Our Cat went missing on October 27th. Are you able to get a photo of the face of the cat you have? Ours has a white right top lip. The white area is from mouth to nose solid white, and the white area goes to his whiskers. His bottom lip is white and then all white to a bib. We weren't sure from your photo if the white markings were quite the same as our cat. Thanks

Hi - it sounds very similar - we do have other photos but when we tried to upload them we seemed to be limited to one . We will try again. The date certainly seems about right but you are a very long way away. Could you tell us the cat's name so we could try calling it to see if there is a response . I'll try the link you sent again to see if we can get to the Information

Hi, I;ve just tried to access your photo but I really cannot find it on the link you have sent. There is one photo that is very similar but again it is for a found cat not a lost cat. Could you possibly send the picture to this site as part of a reply

Hi the cat is called Pinkle he is an older cat & larger than average. I am not able to paste a photo into here, we listed him on petslocated on 27th Oct & there are 2 photos of him on there. I have tried to list him on this site as well not sure he is visible though? There has been no sign anywhere local so still hoping it might be him. Thanks for your help with this.

Hi, I have just got close enough to touch the cat who is very hungry and so focussed on the food and I tried using its name but there was no recognition. I would not describe this cat as larger than average although it has long legs and seems to otherwise match your description. I can't find a way to upload another picture but we have several now. I will try again on the Pets located site but perhaps you might be able to post the cat on this site as well? Is Pinkle chipped? I am becoming more hopeful that we might be able to grab the cat soon and find out.

I have found your picture on the other site (at last). I really don't want to raise your hopes but I would say that this cat looks realy does look very very like your cat in that picture. Yours also seems to have a smallish head and it is possible the cat has lost body mass and so does not appear as big and so looks younger than in reality. I really don't know what to say. Is your cat communicative? This is. Because we feed the feral pair you would think we are a potential attaraction to other cats but oddly enough over the years that hasn't happened until last August when a ginger cat appeared in our garden clearly hungry and exhausted. It stayed in our garden all night after feeding. I searched the lost pets sites and found what I thought was a possible match and contacted the number given and they came round after seeing a photo we took. The cat recognised its owner straight away and responded to its name so in that case I was able to reunite that cat to its owners who had recently moved to Formby. That cat looked small and I had thought quite young but it turned out it had lost half its body weight in the time it was missing and was 20 years old! That story had a happy ending. I do hope this one will do too but I really don't know if it could be your cat.

I'm glad you could find the photo as we tried to get it uploaded here but could not. Anyway if you think that it looks like him then we can arrange to come over to see. He is usually responsive, but I guess he would be confused as to who/where he is. He is unfortunately not chipped - that will be the first thing we do if he returns home! I saw there is a phone number at the top of this page - is that your number? I am not really sure from your photo - but better for us to check than leave him. Thanks again

ChrisCats
Hi, I can't give you my phone number directly according to the advice I've had, but if you ring the number hopefully they will be able to take your number or email address and we can arrange things - or you can see our address if you want to just try to come over around 3 on Saturday or Sunday and be prepared to wait around maybe until the cat appears that would be fine. Our house has a very distinctive number plate with a cat very prominent whihc is at the top of the drive. Trap Hill is a small cul to sac of 11 houses so you won't miss us I can assure you and if we know what time to expect you one of us will position ourselves at the top of the drive. I am also not convinved but we put the picture of your cat next to those we have of this and the markings are remarkable matches from what we can see - but this is not a larger than average cat and does not appear elderly - but then I was wrong about Marmie - the other cat that turned up here and we were fortunately able to return to his owners.

Hi yes it is not a good idea to put phone numbers on here I will call the number above to get a message to you. I have added a new photo of pinkle to petslocated - a close up of his face, you can see his long eyebrow hairs - and a close up of the full white right lip. I am not able to visit this weekend as I am working, I could do Thurs or Fri but I will call the number and hope to get in direct contact with you, Thank you,
fiis
ChrisCats
I hope you are able to - think if you leave a message you have to be very clear which animal using the ref number. Unfortunately if you mean this Thursday and Friday I can't be here but I could be here any day next week apart from Wednesday if that helps you. I just need to know the day and time.
fiis
fiis
Ok thanks I will leave a message and I will let you know when we can get there. Does that cat have long white eyebrow hairs? I don't see any on the picture you posted. Thanks
fiis
ChrisCats
I wish I could say yes but I don't think so. Sorry. I did lol at your other photos and I am really not sure. I so wanted this cat to go home. We are trying to step up our efforts to catch it to take to see if chipped.
fiis
ChrisCats
Sorry not going typing on phone. We looked at your photos and I can see the eyebrows I haven't really noticed them in this cat
fiis
fiis
Ok - thanks so much for all your replies, in case you do notice eyebrows next time you see him then please do let me know. We will keep searching, my facebook page is all about lost/found cats, he must be somewhere. Hope the the owner is found soon.
fiis
ChrisCats
Hi, getting much closer now. This cat hasn't hit the impressive eyebrows tour pictures of your cat show but dies have white eyebrows on one side. I know my black and white cat who also has white eyebrows sometimes sheds. On one side looking lopsided.

ChrisCats
Hi sorry about typing again. Hope you can make sense of this. Don't really want to raise your hopes but you asked me to report. I will try to get as close a photo as I can and try to upload to you. The site seems quite restrictive.

We are still feeding this cat and are hopeful we will be able to check it for being chipped. We were originally contacted by Steve in Hightown who was missing his cat Gary who he thought might be this one but maybe due to some confusion about how to contact us has not been in touch recently to arrange to come to look at the cat. It could be his missing cat who travelled a little too far one day and is now too confused to get back home. Please get back in touch Steve of Hightown. We have also been contacted by someone on the Wirral which I thought was too far at first but someone has posted on another site that they traced owners of a cat they found to people on the Wirral - so not impossible - but there may be points of difference. Again can we urge people to ask friends and neighbours if they know of a black and white cat in Formby who has gone missing a month and a bit ago - Formby isn't that big after all.
ChrisCats
ChrisCats
WE have still not been contacted by anyone else and the cat is continuing to turn up waiting to be fed. It is very vocal and we think domesticated. It is coming closer and reacting when called but not close enough to catch. We are waiting for a humane trap to try to trap it to check for any chip. I personally don't think it can have been missing long when it turned up in our garden. Can I please ask anyone reading this to ask around to see if anyone recognises this cat. I am wondering if this is not an ICT or Facebook savvy person so wouldn't know to check the lost pets sites. Maybe elderly? Please do ask friends and relatives in the Formby area if they would ask around where they live just in case.

GOOD News we have located the owner of this cat. The cat is a neutered male who with his brother was rehomed to a family near to us by Freshfield - who today confirmed what the owner had told us about the cat when he visited to see the cat yesterday. The history is complex but it appears that Tony (as the cat is called) and his brother show feral traits and despite being kept in for the recommended time to settle, upon being let out decided to wander. This happened shortly before Tony turned up in our garden. The owner plans to try to resettle Tony once home.
